Loudoun expands on-demand transit service in Sterling and Leesburg

Loudoun County Transit expanded its on-demand service in Sterling and Leesburg beginning in July 2026 and added direct commuter-bus options from the Leesburg Park and Ride lot.

A new fare-free Transit On Demand pilot began operating in Sterling on July 1. The county defines a 14-square-mile service area and lists operating hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekends. The service is fully accessible and operates seven days a week.

Riders can request trips through the LC Transit On Demand app, online or by telephone. Pickup and drop-off take place at the designated stop closest to the requested location. The county says the Sterling zone includes more than 300 stops, with connections to Claude Moore Park, Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus and the Loudoun Gateway and Innovation Center Metrorail stations.

Each on-demand service area operates independently. Trip requests cannot cross between zones. Loudoun directs riders who need to connect from one area to another to use local bus Route 70.

Leesburg’s Transit On Demand pilot began weekend operations on July 5, creating seven-day service from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The county also added four locations within the Leesburg service area, including the Shops at Russell Branch, Village at Leesburg and the Rehau Building area.

The county separately added morning and evening direct commuter-bus trips between Leesburg and Washington, D.C., and made schedule adjustments to other commuter service.

A requested pickup is tied to the designated-stop system and the boundaries of the service area. The county’s announcement does not describe the service as door-to-door transportation to any address selected by a rider.
